IndyCar has penalized Marco Andretti and Andretti Autosport for Marco’s failure to heed a blue flag in yesterday’s race 1 in Houston. Marco insisted that he was merely trying to stay on the lead lap while radio transmissions and lap times indicated and intention to slow down Sato and let Hinchcliffe catch up. IndyCar essentially stated that while there is no precedent for the penalty there were establishing a “new rule”.
At least IndyCar has now confirmed what we suspected all along. They’re just making it up as they go along. Whether the penalty is justified or not this tragic-comic officiating cannot continue and the blame goes right to the top of IndyCar management. When will the owners, drivers, and especially the fans finally say “Enough!” and move on and start a legitimate, fair and competitive American open wheel series.
